Q & A

Why balayage?

Balayage is a natural colour effect which gives hair a ‘sun kissed’ look. Often favoured by people who want to minimise regrowth. It’s a great way to add depth to your overall look without undergoing a big change.

Balayage is a versatile way to colour many hair types. Because it’s more personal, and requires skill and creativity to achieve the perfect look, it can be more costly than regular colouring, like foils or a tint.

What’s the difference between foil highlights and balayage?

Balayage is from the French ‘to sweep’ or ‘to paint’. So while balayage and foil highlights can both be used to achieve a similar result, foil highlights are more consistent, whereas balayage generally achieves a more natural look overall.

One of the greatest benefits of balayage is that it doesn’t require as much upkeep as foil highlights.

Cold perm vs hot perm?

Perms are back! While both cold perm and hot perm will achieve luscious curls, there are a few key differences between the application technique, the type of curl each produces, and the maintenance required.

For a hot perm, rods are applied to wet hair for various lengths of time, then chemicals applied to the hair afterward to ‘set’ the curl. A good hot perm will achieve nice big, soft curls that look natural and shiny once hair is dry.  Hot perms are perfect for Asian types of hair.

Cold perms are done by applying perming solution to wet hair, which is typically curled around smaller curlers, the end result being smaller, more defined curls which look especially good when hair is wet.
